‘evil’, ‘soulless’ eyes

“A nurse who rushed to help a victim of the London Bridge terror attack was stabbed in the neck by a terrorist – as she asked him “What’s wrong with you?”

Off-duty Helen Kennett ran over to help waiter Alexandre Pigeard, 26, who had been repeatedly stabbed.

She offered to help, but the 26-year-old stab victim – who was one of eight people who died in the atrocity – shook his head and said: “No, just run.”

Instead she confronted his attacker on June 3, 2017, saying: “What’s wrong with you?”

The knifeman replied: “No, what’s wrong with you?” then plunged a 12in blade into her neck, the Old Bailey heard.

She described looking into his “soulless, evil, empty” eyes.”

The eye is the lamp of the body.
If your eyes are healthy,
your whole body will be full of light.
But if your eyes are unhealthy, your whole body will be full of darkness.
If then the light within you is darkness, how great is that darkness!

Matthew 6:22-23

“She borrowed a T-shirt to tie around the wound and was given tea towels from the kitchen as she waited for medical help.

Gareth Patterson QC, for the Pigeard family, said: “Thank you for your instincts in offering to help Alex, the waiter.”

Geoffrey Huet was celebrating exams with friends outside Boro Bistro when he heard a crash.

He saw an attacker on top of Mr Pigeard, a waiter he had chatted with earlier that night.

He told the court he later identified the knifeman from reports as Rachid Redouane, 30.

Redouane appeared to be “finishing him off” when he looked up and their eyes met, the witness said.

His eyes appeared “evil”, Mr Huet said.

“He had this craziness in his eyes, this anger. He was furious,” he added.

The court heard Mr Huet ran away and tried to get help.

Mr Pigeard’s rock musician father Philippe Pigeard listened to the evidence about the death of his son, also a musician, who had been described in court as “charming and sensitive”.”
