Folks, there is no freedom in this.

Folks, there is no freedom in this, only a prison of self-centeredness.

Folks, there is no freedom to be found in vanity praise-worship of oneself – only madness.

Therefore, get rid of all moral filth and the evil that is so prevalent and humbly accept the word planted in you, which can save you.  Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says.

Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like a man who looks at his face in a mirror and, after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like.

But the man who looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom, and continues to do this, not forgetting what he has heard, but doing it–he will be blessed in what he does.   (James 1:21-25)

  • God’s mirror reflects faults, forgiveness and faith.
  • Your mirror reflects frivolities, forfeiture and failure.

Lesson: Mirrors are meant to reveal faults so they can be resolved. Only upon honestly admitting faults, even the fault of being vain about one’s beauty, can the reality of God’s Word set a man, or woman, free for the abundant life. This is why “my” sermons offend me – for such reveal the faults that must be addressed.  Looking intently in this mirror, remembering and obeying, one gains freedom – glorious freedom. Oh to weep for such a self-absorbed generation – a corrupted generation – God give me His tears for such that are so very lost. Lord grant the love to break the mirror and endure the fit-throwing.

(—A California high school in an affluent neighborhood has removed all the mirrors from the girls’ bathroom and replaced them with signs of positive affirmation instead.

Laguna Hills High School made the move after a student belonging to the “Kindness Club” proposed the idea as a way to encourage unity. Seventeen-year-old Sabrina Astle told ABC News that she “wanted to find a way to make a difference” through the Kindness Club on campus.

“This is why I started making the posters in the first place,” Astle said.

Somewhere along the way, the decision was made to not only hang the posters in the bathroom, but get rid of the mirrors altogether. The school held a “What If Week” that was meant to bring the students together. Astle explained, “Each day has a specific message. The message for Thursday, March 23, 2017, was ‘What if we showed more love?’”

“I felt that this would be a good time to hang the signs. I put the signs in the bathroom the night before so students would see them throughout the next day,” Astle said.

Several questions may come to mind, including but not limited to: do mirrors still exist in the boys’ bathroom? What should a female student do if she has food in her teeth? What about all of the obvious reasons to use a mirror that don’t involve vanity?

It appears the message of positivity and acceptance supersedes any of these logical questions, as the school’s activities director Chelsea Maxwell claimed the response was so positive that they decided to leave the signs up indefinitely. It is unclear why the signs could not be displayed around the mirror, or why they had to appear in the bathroom in place of the mirror as opposed to any of the other rooms in the school.

Astle added, “The signs have helped people remember that everyone is beautiful, everyone is important, everyone is good enough and everyone should be treated equally. I did this because I am passionate about the fact that everyone is important and everyone needs to be cared for.”
